Can Green Card Holders Be Deported for Drug Possession Arrest and Conviction?
The short answer is YES.
If convicted of possessing drugs, Green Card holders can be deported. Removal proceedings can be initiated if a Green Card holder has been convicted of a drug offense.
However, there is one exception.
Drug Offense Deportation Exception
If the green card holder is convicted of a single possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana – the individual is not deportable.
If convicted of possession of over 30 grams of marijuana – that individual is subject to deportation.

1. If the green card holder is convicted of a single possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana – the individual is not deportable.
2. If the green card holder is convicted of a single possession of more than 30 grams of marijuana – the individual IS deportable.
3. If the green card holder is convicted of multiple possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana – the individual IS deportable.
4. If the green card holder is convicted of multiple possession of less than 30 grams of ANY TYPE OF DRUG – the individual IS deportable.
